Michael DePew is a 28-year-old friend of Natasha’s, someone Natasha met while reporting a story on healthcare in Putnam County, Florida, for More Perfect Union. Michael is the kind of person who shows up for others: a loyal friend, a devoted son, and someone who has always dreamed of becoming a young dad. Now Michael is facing the fight of his life after being diagnosed with aggressive testicular cancer. He needs treatment as soon as possible, and while this cancer can often respond well when treated quickly, time matters. Every week counts. Like so many hardworking people, Michael did not have health insurance when he received his diagnosis, and he is now facing overwhelming medical bills on top of an already frightening situation.
