Support Michael Cummings in His Fight Against Cancer

Dear Colleagues, Friends, Family, and Kind Supporters,

We are reaching out on behalf of our dear friend and colleague, Michael Cummings, who is courageously battling stage 4 metastatic renal cell carcinoma. This journey has been an incredibly challenging one for Mike, his wife, and their 10-year-old son.

In 2024, Mike underwent surgery to remove cancer from his kidney. While the procedure was initially successful, the cancer has since spread to his back and spine. After months of preparation, recovery, and a brief return to work in late 2024, he began experiencing debilitating back pain once again.

Determined to understand the cause, Mike and his family paid for a private MRI to bypass the long waits associated with Alberta Health-covered scans. The results confirmed what we had all feared—the cancer had metastasized. In the past few months, he has undergone palliative radiation treatments to manage the pain, as well as bone biopsies to aid in treatment planning. He is currently waiting on his oncologist to outline the next steps in this fight.

This diagnosis has not only taken a significant toll on Mike’s health but has also placed a heavy financial burden on his family. He was off work for much of 2024 due to surgery and recovery and is now unable to work while focusing on his treatment and care.

We’ve started this GoFundMe campaign to help ease the financial strain on Mike and his family so they can focus on what matters most—his health and well-being. Donations will go directly toward:

Medical expenses, including treatments and private imaging costs

Travel expenses for specialized care and consultations

Daily living costs, such as rent, utilities, and groceries, during this difficult time
