Hi, my name is Sarah and I’m the youngest child and only daughter of Michael Brown. I’m reaching out on behalf of my parents to ask for your support during an incredibly challenging time.
My dad Michael, is a retired law enforcement officer who served honorably for 20 years with the Sonoma Police Department in Northern California. He holds a degree in criminal justice from the University of Southern Mississippi. He’s an avid reader, a history enthusiast, and a devoted animal lover. Above all, he is a loving husband, father of three, and grandfather of six. He and my mom have been happily married for over 40 years.
On December 12th, my mom took my dad to the emergency room, thinking he might have a typical virus. However, after a second ER visit days later, doctors discovered that he had a severe blood infection—Toxic Shock Syndrome and Strep A. He was immediately admitted to the ICU and placed on a ventilator. Since then, my dad has undergone countless tests and doctors continue to search for answers. Most recently, an MRI revealed signs of multiple mini-strokes and blockages in his brain, though it’s unclear if these are caused by the infection, low oxygen levels, or as a result of aggressive treatment.
My mom has been disabled since 1998 and relies on a wheelchair or walker for mobility. Dad has been her primary caregiver throughout the years, assisting with most of her daily needs. With him now in the hospital, she is understandably struggling with the uncertainty of the future and the immense stress of being without his support.
The financial burden of this situation is overwhelming. The hospital is over an hour away from their home, and daily co-pays, food, and travel expenses are adding up quickly. On top of that, my mom’s wheelchair is in disrepair and can’t be used in inclement weather, and their wheelchair-accessible van is in the shop for costly repairs. Their home also still needs a wheelchair ramp, which is now more urgent than ever since my mom can no longer rely on dad for help with the stairs.
At this time, we’re hoping for a miracle and are seeking to alleviate some of the financial strain on my parents. Any support you can offer would be deeply appreciated. We are grateful for your generosity and kindness as we navigate this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for your support.
