Losing Our Home in the Altadena/Eaton Canyon California Wildfires
On Jan. 8, 2025, our lives were forever changed when the devastating Altadena/Eaton Canyon fires swept through our beloved Pasadena neighborhood. In a matter of two hours, the wildfire consumed 95% of our home, leaving behind only the facade of the front and sadly little of anything else. We evacuated with nothing but the clothes we were wearing. We are thankful to our Lord God to have escaped unharmed but heartbroken by the loss of our home and nearly everything we’ve built over the past 30+ years.
We are Michael S. Moore and Rev. Rochelle Wright-Moore, retired residents of Pasadena. Michael is a retired Quality Engineer for Northrop Grumman, a volunteer for Feed My Sheep for First A.M.E. Church, Pasadena. I am a proud Army Medical Corps veteran and retired HealthCare advocate & admin for several multi-specialty physician Healthcare affiliates, contracted with HMH in Pasadena. You see, Pasadena is not just where we live—it’s the community we love and have dedicated our lives to supporting. I also serve as an Associate Minister at First A.M.E. Church, Pasadena. My family has worked with local homeless coalitions and many other youth organizations to give back to our neighbors over the years.
The fire took almost everything we hold dear. However, we are profoundly grateful to the firefighters who risked their lives and managed to save a few precious family photos, laying them on the front lawn as the fire ravaged the rest. These photos of our eight children we raised here and the life we built together are now some of the only tangible memories we have left.
As many of our neighbors in our community of Pasadena & Altadena, we are currently staying in a hotel while we await more permanent housing. The out-of-pocket costs for temporary shelter, replacing essential items, and daily necessities are mounting. As a Breast Cancer survivor in remission, just replacing my daily meds that were destroyed was a surmounting experience.
We are humbly asking for your help to raise funds to cover our living expenses and begin restoration. These funds will aid us in transition over the next year or two as we focus on attempting to rebuild, aid our neighbors in their needs, and in our overall joint communities.
We’re committed to staying in Pasadena, reestablishing our firm foundation & continuing to serve our church and community. Rebuilding the home we’ve poured our hearts and resources into since 1997 is our primary objective.
Though it’s difficult to ask for help, we know we can’t do this alone.
Your generosity—whether through a donation or sharing this campaign—means more than we can express. Every contribution brings us closer to stability and gives us hope during this challenging time.
Thank you for caring about our story and for being a part of our journey to recovery. We will keep all donors updated on our progress and ensure every act of kindness is met with heartfelt gratitude.
With love and hope,
