Hi, my name is Michael Ahl. I am a 21-year-old college student from the state of Florida. I am currently trying to compete in my first marathon, the Hawaii marathon, on December 14th. I have gone through a massive transformation, going from 310 lbs to now 170-175 lbs. I am trying to run this marathon in under 4 hours, so I can accomplish going from 300+ lbs to a 3-hour marathon. Not only that, but I am running this to prove that no matter the struggles you go through, you can still accomplish your dreams.

On August 13th of this year, I lost the man who raised me, my grandpa. He had taken me in at birth when my parents could not raise me, and my nana and he had chosen to give so much just to give me a good life. He passed away due to cancer that had been found in him a week before his passing. He had watched me not only lose all the weight but also support me through all of the phases of my running difficulties and was my number one supporter all the way through, even when I had failed workouts.

I want to be able to compete in this marathon and give it my all not only for him but my entire family because we all miss him right now. I want to be able to inspire those that have lost a loved one or who are currently struggling with life that no matter how low or tough it gets, you can get through it. Just because you may seem defeated, it is your choice to get up and keep going because you are only defeated when you personally decide that you have given up.

To compete in this marathon, there are numerous expenses, including travel, gear, and the registration fee. I am seeking just a little bit of help to not only compete in this marathon but to help inspire others that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
