We are reaching out to you today to share the story of Staff Sergeant Michael Bloch, a highly decorated combat veteran who has dedicated over a decade of his life in service to our country as a U.S. Marine Corps Raider. Throughout his military career, Michael demonstrated exceptional bravery and professionalism, receiving numerous accolades for his contributions.
However, his journey has not been without its challenges. After leaving active duty, Michael continued to serve as an Intelligence Contractor with the elite Joint Special Operations Command. Unfortunately, his experiences in combat have left him grappling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), diagnosed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 2015.
To cope with these conditions, Michael was prescribed a medication called 'Nuvigil.' Tragically, the drug's prolonged use and severe side effects, including hallucinations and psychotic episodes, took a toll on his mental well-being. On February 15, 2022, Michael experienced a mental breakdown, resulting in an incident involving his personal pistol and causing property damage.
Despite the absence of any harm to individuals and the victims' explicit request not to prosecute Michael, he has been charged with felonies and misdemeanors related to the incident. These legal proceedings have left him and his family facing financial burdens that threaten their well-being and ability to access the support Michael needs.
We believe that it is our duty to support those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. That is why we have created this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for Michael's legal defense and to help alleviate the financial strain his family is enduring. Our goal is to ensure that Michael receives fair and proper representation, ensuring that his case is considered with compassion and understanding of the unique circumstances he faces as a veteran.
