Hi! I’m Mia, I’m raising funds to get our lives back together. This Mothers days weekend has became a tragedy for us. My family is a Puerto Rican multi generational house hold. My house was affected by a Fire and Water Crisis. We genuinely never expected the fire to reach our building yet it still struck us. They explained it to be something called a “Cock Loft Fire”. Which happens to spread quickly and is very dangerous since it’s difficult to stop. The FDNY Stopped by our house at 11am May 8th, and called the fire off even though there was clearly a fire with ongoing smoke. They returned only 30/40 minutes later to a fire gone wild. This is what happens when negligence is applied to emergencies. It costed our Home.

We’ve been through multiple fire cases before in the past and recently about 4+ years ago next door in 251 Weirfield street before it was renovated. My whole building including my room was destroyed. Me and my family grew up in this building for 20 years. Our Late mother, who was part of the FDNY had bought this home. She wanted us to all live under one roof and be able to be an independent family. It was very painful to sit and be covered in ashes leaving what we knew as “home”. Luckily one of the most important things was that everyone was safe and unharmed but bruised and tired. We were able to retrieve our most prized possessions but missing one thing. Our treasure was our spot in the neighborhood. Our house is simply just hollow. We can’t wait to get everything fixed and back to normal but right now we need love and all the help we could get.

For those who are worried, Yes I’m okay, Yes I’m safe, Yes my family have homes to go to, Yes I have a place to stay. We expect to be in hotels for two weeks. But we do show up to the neighborhood, if not all of us, it’s some of us.

Our whole house has extreme damage. Every couple of days or whenever I can get to it, we will update photography of our journey and some things if we need it.

We have 6 Pets. Three Cats, Two Dogs and a Turtle.

Clothings sizes vary from Women’s clothes to Men’s clothes and proportional Children’s sizes. We have two donation sites linked in one of our update posts.

I built my loft, I painted my walls, I put up my own ceiling and floors, and I loved my room so well that all my belongings are squished, smashed, hidden, or are straight up out my window into the yard. I helped with other parts of the third floor apartment with painting, Light work, and floor tiles. With a Before and After photo of my bedroom. I’ve lived in it for about 4 years.
