Hi, my name is Mia Waxman, and I’m a rising senior nursing student at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. I’m passionate about becoming a pediatric travel nurse and am committed to gaining as much hands-on experience as possible to prepare for a meaningful career in global healthcare. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a medical mission trip to Honduras. There, I witnessed firsthand how different healthcare systems operate around the world. I was able to assist with a range of procedures within my scope of practice, experiences I might not have had in the U.S., due to how specialized roles tend to be here. That mission solidified my desire to work in diverse clinical settings and learn from professionals across the globe.

This summer, I’ve been accepted into a nursing internship in Mombasa, Kenya, through International Medical Aid. This immersive program will allow me to expand my clinical and cultural knowledge, sharpen my critical thinking and decision-making skills, work alongside experienced healthcare providers, and serve a community in need while growing as a future nurse.

While I’m incredibly excited and grateful for this opportunity, the internship is unpaid, and due to the international location, the associated costs are significant. I’ve received some scholarship support and am contributing what I can, but I still need help covering travel, program fees, and other essential expenses. This experience is more than just an internship; it's a chance to grow, serve, and take one step closer to my dream of becoming a globally minded travel nurse.
