Support Mia's Fight Against OTC Deficiency

January 19th update: Mia’s mom has posted an update on her present condition. It’s going to be a very long road. We are all so appreciative of your past support and hope that others can also help. Please scroll down to see the latest.
September 2024: Our dental office manager is going through a very difficult time. Her 9-year-old has recently been diagnosed with a very rare condition called OTC deficiency. OTC causes dangerously high levels of ammonia in the blood because her body cannot properly process protein.
Up until August 15, 2024, Mia was a healthy, energetic young girl eagerly awaiting her return to school in September. Suddenly, she fell ill with high ammonia levels, which caused her to have uncontrollable seizures. She was put in an induced coma and placed on a ventilator and dialysis machine. She has been in the hospital ever since. Her parents have been by her side since August 15th and sleep in the same room with her. Mom has exhausted her family leave monies, and Dad has used up all of his PTO and sick time. They do not know what lies ahead for this wonderful child. UPDATE-As of November 20, Mia and her Mom and Dad are still in a facility in Westchester. They are hoping to return to Golisano in Syracuse and continue her care closer to home. Mia is slowly learning how to use her hands, feet, and to speak. She is still on a feeding tube. It will be a long road for her. The family is so grateful for all of the support that you have shown them.
I have never done a GoFundMe page. My heart aches for this family, and I pray every day that she will become their healthy, fun-loving little girl again.
