Hello! Mia, a four-year-old american staffordshire terrier mix rescue, will be undergoing heart surgery on 5/1/2024 quoted at $6,000 - $8,000. We are asking for your assistance to help offset some of the medical costs. Any amount raised over the goal on this GoFundMe will be donated to NC State College of Veterinary Medicine as they are one of a small handful of clinics on the East Coast that can perform the surgery. All contributions are greatly appreciated.
After being diagnosed with a grade 2 heart murmur, Mia received various bloodwork tests and an echocardiogram which ultimately resulted in a diagnosis of severe pulmonic stenosis (PS) with valvular stenosis and annular hypoplasia and a recommendation for 2 heart procedures. These 3 heart conditions mean that one of her heart valves is significantly narrower than the other, resulting in restricted blood flow and an enlarged heart muscle which can ultimately lead to heart failure if untreated.
Since the diagnosis we have had to closely monitor Mia’s activity; no more big hikes, dog parks, or chasing the ball, and (at most) 10-15 minute walks to ensure she does not faint or have a seizure, which has luckily not yet happened. Following a successful procedure and a few months of monitoring, medication, and ramp-ups, Mia will be back to living her best life with no limitations.
I was lucky enough to adopt Mia (aka Mishara, Bookrah, Boolarah, La Pookaracha) from Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in April 2021. 2 weeks later she had her forever home, and over the past 3 years, she has grown from a timid foster dog into a confident, goofy and loving best friend. Unfortunately, heart surgery is now needed to give her the full, healthy, and active life she deserves.
