In December 2019, Mia lost her beloved baby brother — an unimaginable pain that shattered her world. One of her deepest fears was ever having to bury her parents alone. She didn’t know when or how that day might come, but she knew it would be one of the hardest things she’d ever have to face.

On October 19th, that heartbreaking moment arrived when her beautiful mother, Shalethia “Nel” McDougald, unexpectedly gained her wings at just 54 years old.

Nel was more than a mother — she was laughter, light, and love personified. She filled every room with joy and made everyone she met feel like family. Her humor, kindness, and strength left an impression that will last forever. To know her was truly to love her.

Now, Mia is faced with the painful reality of laying her mother to rest — without life insurance and without her brother by her side. She wants nothing more than to give her mom the homegoing she truly deserves, one that reflects her spirit, her love, and the way she made everyone feel special.
