Communities are vibrant. Communities are filled with culture, and sometimes communities bring out the best of humanity. Right now, the community of Mexico Beach, Florida needs your help. Mexico Beach was hit with a direct impact from a CAT 4 hurricane. Thousands have been impacted, but for us, this impact hits close to home.
Two of our family members who are residents of Mexico Beach have been impacted by this storm. Lindsay and Chris Hovind became members of the Mexico Beach community not too long ago. Moving there with the dream of building a home, making friends, and living in the Florida sunshine.
After the storm hit, Lindsay and Chris realized that the road ahead would be longer than they thought. Upon returning to Mexico Beach they discovered that their rental home was gone, along with all of their possessions. A few days later, miraculously, they were able to find that their new home, which is currently in progress, was impacted with minimal damage.
However, some of Chris and Lindsay’s friends were not so lucky. Their friends who are also passionate members of the community have lost their homes, their businesses, and their livelihoods.
Lindsay and Chris Hovind are not ones to ask for help nor feel sorry for themselves. In fact, they are the exact opposite. They are caring, kind, and compassionate human beings. They are grateful for what they have, and they are looking to help the community.
As of today Lindsay and Chris have taken refuge in a home with two other friends. All who are working towards a collective goal of bringing back their lives and the community of Mexico Beach.
The aid that the community has already received is overwhelming, however, the concern is the overall long-term sustainability and survival for Chris, Lindsay, their friends, and the Mexico Beach community.
This storm hit just 10 days ago, yet the news headlines have changed, the reporters have left, and soon so will the aid. Lindsay, Chris, and the Mexico Beach community need you now more than ever.
