Her Story

Our sweet Mery—strong, brave, and full of love—has recently been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a life-threatening cancer that has completely turned our world upside down.

Mery is five years old, and from the day she was born, she has faced tremendous adversity. She was born with Down Syndrome, and her journey has been filled with challenges that she has met with incredible strength and resilience. She has worked so hard to learn and grow, and she's brought so much joy to everyone who knows her.

My daughter-in-law Ruthie left her career when Mery was born to stay home and become Mery's full-time caregiver. She's been her occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech therapist, teacher, and biggest cheerleader. Now, she's also her nurse and constant source of comfort through this fight against cancer.

Mery is now undergoing a rigorous chemotherapy protocol that will last over two years. It includes hospital stays, treatments, procedures, medications with difficult side effects, and periods where her immune system will be extremely vulnerable. The road ahead will be long, uncertain, and incredibly demanding.
