Support Merri After Val's Peaceful Passing

My father Valentine has lived a long life of nearly 84 years, but this past February he was taken to the ER with multiple blood bleeds. They were able to stop them and he found himself in rehab. There he got a UTI, sepsis, and pneumonia which landed him back in the ER in April. Dr's cleared him to go back to rehab on May 16th. On May 17th around 3pm while waiting for my mom to come he passed away peacefully. My mother was there just in time to see him off to his next resting place.

We are asking for donations to help cover the costs of medical bills from a nearly 4 month hospital stay, funeral costs, and to get Merri, his wife and our mother, through a couple months of bills while we figure this out for her. Val, as he was known, was dropped from his insurance late last year, my parents were on a fixed income and have since gone through any retirement savings they had.

Merri, my mother and the mother of my 4 siblings, Donna, Lisa, Val Jr, and Marean, as well as many court appointed foster children and even more that just called her mom. She has spent most of her life looking after others with the task of being dad's caregiver these past few years. She is left with not only grief but a burden to bury the man she has been married to for 58 years.

Val Sr spent 4 years in the Navy serving on the seas during the late 50s early 60s. He was proud to have served his country and will be getting a military burial with the last salute.

My mom wasn't alone in raising the whole neighborhood. Pop, as he is fondly remembered, was a father figure to a lot of my friends as well as the many that passed through our doors growing up. He was there for us. Each of his children be it by birthright, marriage, adoption, or just plain being a dad, will miss him dearly.
