Hi, my name is Merilyn. I was in a motorcycle accident on November 3, 2023, because a young girl ran a red light and was speeding. I flew over the car and broke 80% of the bones in my body and was in a coma for 20 days. I had one stroke and one seizure during my surgeries. But not only did my life completely change, but I wasn’t the one driving the motorcycle. My friend was, and he died on the scene. The girl who caused this accident didn’t receive any punishment, citations, tickets, or license suspensions. I’m looking for justice, not only for me, but for my friend as well.

This accident changed my life completely, not only as a person but as a mom of a four-year-old boy. I sadly only have one hand because I have a brachial plexus injury, which means my nerves completely broke on impact, and my right hand is dead. I have complications walking since I broke both of my ankles, pelvis, and all of my right ribs.

I just want justice or some sort of compensation, not only for me but for my friend's mother, who received the news while she was waiting on parole in Mexico to come live with her son, who is not here anymore. She struggles every day, cries every day, grieves every day, and begs for justice. She doesn’t have any money and struggles to clean houses with low minimum wage.

If you’re asking yourself or telling yourself that we were speeding, I can tell you right now with proof that we were not. There were witnesses who stated that we weren’t speeding and we were following the law. The girl who caused the accident was the one that was speeding and ran the red light. Even though there were three witnesses, the detective on the case deemed us guilty, even though he did not have any video evidence or proof stating that my friend was guilty of the accident and completely ignored the witnesses' statements. In the beginning of 2024 the Detective on the case came to see me 3 to 4 months after the accident, he interviewed me while I was bedridden didn’t record the conversation that we had where he threatened me, disrespected, my friend who died and my brother’s friend he proceeded to intimidate me while I was vulnerable and crying because of the whole situation he said that if I take him to court, then I’m going to regret it and that people like us on motorcycles are always to blame and that I will fucking lose the case he called my friends, brother, stupid, and other curse words in Spanish I spoke to one of the witnesses and she told me while she was at the scene of the accident that the people didn’t know that she spoke Spanish because she was black. She heard the conversation of the girl who ran the red light speaking to her family, and her family telling her to calm down that they will fix the situation and to not say anything to the cops and lie about what happened after killing my friend at this point, I don’t really care about the money at this point I just want my story to be heard I just want justice. I just want to be OK for me and for my son.

Edited : This year 2025 has been hard. I have no family to help me or to support me… 

My mother put her hands on me, knowing I have one hand. I tried to defend myself and pulled her hair and pushed her off. She called the cops, and she lied, which had me arrested. I caught a DV charge The only reason why I allowed it and didn’t defend myself was because I have two brothers, one who’s autistic..and if my mom left her husband would of kicked me out and my brothers would be alone I don’t really like conflict at all so everything was just horrible for me in that moment I just allowed it… I was stupid I see that now After a month, I went to Court and they closed my case and deemed me, not guilty. I was a burden on her because of the conditions that I have bc of my accident. I had to move in with my boyfriend at the time with my son.… on June 6. My ex punched me in the face gave me a laceration, five stitches and a black eye. Again, I couldn’t defend myself. Because of the situation, the place that we were living at is kicking me and my son out even though I’m perfectly capable of paying the rent myself. In the meantime, we will reside at a shelter until I can figure out how to get back on my feet. I do apply for jobs and go to interviews but they don’t accept me because of my hand and think I’m in capable…. I have a car, but my ex broke it. He tried to do a oil change, but emptied out the transmission oil in my car and smoke started coming out the exhaust he supposedly fixed the problem, but my car all of a sudden stopped turning on…. My car is all I have for me and my son… my life has been ????? Hard… really hard but just please share my story even if you can’t donate
