Support Meningitis Research: My Climb for a Cause
Hello everyone! My name is Arpita, and this year, I’m taking on the challenge of a lifetime by pledging to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with Choose a Challenge in support of the Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF). I aim to raise raise essential funds for MRF in Europe aimed at advancing research, improving treatments, and increasing awareness of this devastating illness.
Why Meningitis?
Meningitis is characterized by the inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord, and it can kill within hours.
Every year:
- Around 2.3 million people worldwide are affected.
- 1 in 10 of those infected will die.
Despite significant progress in prevention and treatment, meningitis remains a global health threat. It can strike with little warning, leading to life-altering complications or death.
About the Meningitis Research Foundation
The Meningitis Research Foundation is at the forefront of the global fight against meningitis, working closely with the World Health Organization and leading experts. Their ambitious goals include:
- Reducing new cases by 50% by 2030.
- Reducing deaths by 70%.
- Ending meningitis epidemics worldwide.
- Ensuring that those affected receive the support and aftercare they need.
They are determined to see meningitis defeated, and with your support, we can help them reach these life-saving milestones.
My Mission
I’ve pledged to scale Mt. Kilimanjaro this year to raise awareness and funds for MRF. I will be going with the Trinity College Dublin 2025 Kilimanjaro Trek Group. Working with MRF and Choose a Challenge, I want to bring attention to:
- The causes, symptoms, and risk factors associated with meningitis.
- The treatment and recovery process after diagnosis.
- The critical importance of early intervention to save lives.
