Melvin is my 51-year-old SIL and dad to my 3 grandsons. Recently, Melvin began experiencing acute symptoms that led to a diagnosis of stage 4 prostate cancer. The cancer has spread to his bones and lymph nodes, making his treatment and daily life much more challenging. On top of this, Melvin is diabetic, which adds another layer of complexity to his care and the support he needs each day. Ragena, my daughter, has become caregiver extraordinaire, even with all the stress and worry during this difficult time. Our family is rallying around Melvin as he begins this daunting fight.

Melvin is now unable to work causing financial difficulties for his family. He is the only big rig operator in his families’ small transport company, bring it to a halt. We are doing everything we can to help Melvin manage his health and maintain his quality of life. The costs are overwhelming—transportation to and from medical appointments, treatments and diagnostic procedures, medications that insurance doesn’t cover, special dietary needs, and the urgent need for a wheelchair ramp at home to ensure he can move safely and comfortably. Every bit of support will go directly toward these essential needs, helping Melvin focus on his treatment and well-being.

UPDATE: Melvin has begun the first step in his fight against this cancer with hormone blockers, which will stop “feeding” the cancer. Then there will be more testing before the doctors go on to the next step. Every hour of every day is a struggle as this cancer has ravaged his strength and stamina.
