Raising Funds to Help Stabilize My Son During a Mental Health Crisis
I am reaching out during one of the most difficult periods of my life, asking for help for my son, who is currently in a severe mental health crisis.
Over the past four months, my 25-year-old son has shown increasing signs of mental instability. Because he is an adult, he is legally required to seek treatment on his own—but at this time, he is unable to recognize that he is unwell. He struggles to make sense. He has difficulty articulating his thoughts, and is experiencing delusions/psychosis episodes.
Recently, his very first friend was killed in an act of gun violence. This loss has taken an enormous toll on his mental health and worsened his condition. Out of concern for his safety, I had to call authorities for help. He was placed on a psychiatric hold and taken to the hospital. During those 72 hours, authorities had to remain involved because he repeatedly tried to leave. He was then transferred to a mental health facility but was released far too early.
Since coming home, he has refused to take his prescribed medication and is still not stable. Local authorities have stated that he is “better off at home,” but the reality is that I am not currently able to provide the level of care he needs while also keeping up with rent and basic living expenses. I am doing everything I can to keep him safe while gently supporting him through this, but the financial strain has become overwhelming.
I am not used to asking for help. However, at this point, any donation—no matter the amount—would help us tremendously. The funds will allow me to stay home, cover essential bills, and focus on ensuring my son’s safety and stability as we navigate this journey together.
Thank you for reading, for your kindness, and for any support you are able to give. Even sharing this message means more than I can express.
With gratitude,
Melody
