I'm Nonnie & my mom is Melody. She’s been a nurse my entire life. Last year on December 2nd, my mom collapsed at her workplace, Herman Memorial in Houston, Texas. Being at work saved her life. She experienced a ruptured bowel. That was the beginning of what has been the hardest year of our lives. Multiple unsuccessful surgeries and 4 days intubation—my mom was woken up a solidified miracle and sent home with 6 drains to care for as her body simply was not healing. She overcame, at this point, countless surgeries and was able to battle infections and still came out the other side the strongest human I’ve ever seen. Despite the slow healing, things had not healed correctly, so another major surgery was needed. We went into that operation on October 1, and after 11 hours on the table, it was again a situation of no healing. She was intubated and operated on for 25 days until we had to make the decision to trach. Since she’s woken back up, it’s been a battle. We are fighting the slow healing as well as a fungal infection, and there was an injury to the bladder during that procedure also. Our family has been by her the entire time. We are hoping that we can get to a place where she’s able to travel to Washington, DC for a transplant. I live in Louisiana, and my mom's husband as well. We have been traveling back and forth as well as being out of work to care for and be with my mom, and the upcoming discussion of traveling to DC will simply be too great for us to cover alone, so we are finally asking for help.

update: we are thankful to have been able to use these funds to help transfer my mom back home to Lafayette ❤️ she will be at the carpenter house here in Lafayette soaking up all the love and moments we can..

My mom, Melody, passed away 11/14 here in Lafayette with me holding her hand. I’m sorry I’ve been slow to update this page. The funds collected here have absolutely been a salvation to us as we were unprepared for some of the immediate financial challenges. We have all been out of work for so long & Stewart suffered another loss just a few days after my mom’s passing. This was my first experience in go fund me and I am deeply thankful for this community of support. I hope to honor my mother in the future and hope we can connect and continue her legacy together. I’ll be dissolving this at some point this next week as I hope to make a slow return back to work. With all my heart thank you for helping us when we needed it the most.
