My name is Mellissa “Mell” Tuxhorn. I’m currently raising money for my 2 children and I. This money will go to help us from becoming homeless and continue our journey of healing ❤️‍ from abuse.

I’m currently in a high security shelter with my two children. We’re looking for a home. We have now been here for almost 8 weeks and our exit date is approaching within the next week.

When arriving to this location we were told they could help us to get back on our feet and help us heal in the ways we were needing. Unfortunately because I don’t have a job due to my physical disability, nor receiving Support income for these children they CAN NOT help me find housing. I have tried every possible option of a solution. Even Section 8, Housing Charities, Churches and more.

I’m currently working with 2 Case Managers, Personal Therapist, and Counseling for my daughter and son. I as well am doing Group Therapy classes for my mental wellbeing and awareness of others, to never end up in this position again.

Both of my children are of special needs. My daughter Sophia (13 years old), is deaf and a cowgirl Princess. She’s extremely passionate and one day wants to become a Veterinarian for large animals. My son, Quartz (11 years old). He has autism as well as Asperger syndrome. His mind blows me away. He’s extremely engineering and creative. One day he would love to be a race car driver or go to space. In my own healing ❤️‍ I’m also trying to find myself and things I am passionate about. Which is being behind my camera while surrounded in nature.

I have always worked and supported my family up until 2022. I had my own business, Vintage Hair Studio for over 20 + years.

I had broken both of my knees in 2017. I wasn’t able to have the surgeries needed due to controlling behaviors from my Husband. He was unwilling to help me support our family. After 8 years of working on my broken knees I finally had my first and second knee surgery done in 2023. Unfortunately neither surgery was successful. I am still currently awaiting two more knee surgeries so that I can be fully functioning on my legs again, the surgeries are called Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy. These are very invasive as well as very painful to heal from. I’ll be in a brace/cast for 8 to 9 weeks before learning how to rebend and walk again. When I can put weight on them, I will be in physical therapy anywhere from 3 to 4 times a week.

Finding a job has also been very hard. I have been on the hunt to find a job that is truly remote. This has been extremely challenging. I’m willing to work as I heal. However I have yet to be successful finding that income to help support us at the moment.

After 15 1/2 years I have found the courage to leave an abusive home. A home that had a lot of Domestic Abuse, Mental Abuse, Verbal Abuse, Financial Abuse, and Isolation Abuse. All of this has affected the children and I in many ways. This has been a journey these children and I should never have had to endure. No one should ever have to be afraid or abused.

As soon as I am able to put a roof over our heads my orthopedic surgeon will have me on the operating table. These surgeries are a must.

Their father, my spouse is not helping me financially at all. He also informed the 3 of us that the only way he’ll take care of us is if we come back to be under his roof and control. That is not an option at all for our safety. Attorneys are now being involved to receive a Divorce and Custody for the safety of these children.

I’m in dire need of help before becoming homeless for the second time. I left to protect these amazing children so they could heal and become healthier young adults. Also to have a better life without them watching their Mother constantly being abused.

While these hardships are taking place. We have continued to keep our spirits high in every way possible. Including being a strong and united family of love. We always start and end our day with our Family prayers. We have an extremely strong relationship with our Heavenly Father. We are grateful that we were able to leave our bad situation. We are also not wanting to have to return after all we have done to get out and onto a better path of life.

My children are my world and I would and will do anything to keep them safe. I’m not sure how you may be able help us in any way possible. By either helping us find a location to call home or financially helping us to put a roof over our heads.

What we are going through is something that no one should ever have to face. Unfortunately there are many families in our country that go through this. It’s truly heartbreaking ❤️‍. We also have no family members here in this state that can help house the three of us.

We are grateful for all the blessing we have received, and getting out of the cycle of abuse. Just know that any help given will be more than appreciated in many ways and will help to keep us succeeding in this world.
