Help Melissa beat leukemia (AML) and get a transplant
As some of you know, my mom, Melissa, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an aggressive form of blood and bone marrow cancer, back in January 2021. She went through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and was in remission until February 2022 when she relapsed. For the past almost 2 years, she's had to get chemotherapy every 4 weeks in order to keep the cancer from progressing. Eventually, the chemo will stop working. She is in need of a bone marrow transplant which can offer a cure to AML and save her life.
Unfortunately, she will have to stay in Pittsburgh for 3 months and will need a dedicated caregiver 24/7 (me, her daughter). I will have to live in Pittsburgh with my family for 3 months to be in a “safe zone” close to Pittsburgh hospital. It is essential to note that without a family member caregiver, she would not be eligible for the transplant. Her care will involve close monitoring, assistance with daily living, transportation to and from the hospital, and other forms of support.
Anyone who knows me knows I cannot be without my 3 children and significant other for 3 months. Therefore, we are hoping to go in the beginning of summer to be able to stay and care for her. It is not ideal, but I am the only one who can help her in the family. She also lives with us, and I am already her caregiver, so it just makes sense.
All donations would go towards the family housing where we are staying at in Pittsburgh. Since I'll be her full-time caregiver, I will also be without work. Also, we will still obviously be having to pay our rent and other bills, etc., in Erie.
Any donation is greatly appreciated. She is a mother to 5 and a granny to 12 grandchildren who love and adore her. Please share and help save my mom’s life. Thank you and God bless.
