Hi, and thank you for reading our story.
After receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, I developed serious health complications that eventually left me unable to work. I’m currently waiting on a disability hearing after my initial claim and appeal were denied. I’ve had to sell my home, give up my active lifestyle, and rely on my kids and brother for support.
To regain some independence, we as a family decided to get me a service dog to assist with mobility and daily tasks. I chose a Great Dane puppy named Stella, who was temperament tested and has been excelling in her training. She’s truly special and showing great potential as a future service dog.
Shortly after bringing her home, we discovered she had frequent urination issues. Despite multiple vet visits, tests, and treatments—costing over $3,000—we still don’t have a resolution. Stella now needs to see a specialist and likely requires surgery for a suspected Ectopic Ureter, a congenital condition affecting her urinary tract.
The cost for specialist care, imaging, surgery, and recovery is estimated at $6,000–$10,000. I’ve exhausted my resources and can’t afford to continue her care on my own. I was misled by the breeder, who is now unwilling to help, and rehoming Stella would mean giving up not only my emotional support but also the service dog I’ve invested so much in.
If you’re able to help, I would be incredibly grateful. If not, thank you just for taking the time to read our story and share it. Asking for help is not easy, but Stella deserves a full, happy life—and she’s already changing mine.
With love and gratitude,
Melissa
