Support Melissa's Safe Return Home

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I'm reaching out today because my mom, Melissa, needs our help.

Just a few weeks ago, the area where she lives was hit by a tornado. While her specific apartment didn't sustain direct damage, the entire building suffered significant structural issues and has been declared uninhabitable. This has unexpectedly displaced her, and the current estimate for repairs is at least 4 to 6 weeks; and as anyone who's dealt with construction timelines knows, those estimates can often be pushed back.

To give you some context, she just moved into these brand-new apartments back in November. This move was a huge step after a challenging time in Florida, where she battled two hurricanes and a hospital stay with sepsis. She was so relieved to find a safe, clean, and affordable place - a rare find, especially on a fixed income (she's on disability).

This new apartment truly felt like a fresh start.

Unfortunately, adding to the difficulty, FEMA has not declared the tornado a federal disaster, meaning there are no emergency funds available to residents in her area. While the Red Cross is offering a temporary shelter, they don't allow pets and rehoming her two cats, Archie and Brooke, simply isn't an option. They mean the world to her.

Since the tornado, she's been staying in a motel, and we're now approaching three weeks with no clear timeline from her apartment management about when the building might be ready. They've been evasive with their answers, making it even more stressful. I've been doing everything I can to help, and some of her friends have also pitched in, but the costs are really starting to mount.

That's why I'm reaching out to my community for support. If you're in a position to donate, even a small amount, or simply share this fundraiser, it would make a significant difference in helping my mom get back into a safe and stable living situation, wherever that ends up being at this point.

I've also created a T-shirt and mug, with all proceeds going directly to help her. Whether you choose to donate directly or purchase a shirt or mug, every bit of support will go towards keeping her safe and secure until she can either return to her apartment or find a new place to call home.

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to our story and for any help you can offer.

Seriously, even just sharing her story helps us reach more people who might be able to lend a hand.

Thank you.
