Support Melissa's Recovery and Housing Needs
Donation protected
During Hurricane Francine, Melissa was housesitting. During the blackout, her dog Mika ran outside and when Melissa went to find her, she slipped on some wet bricks. What she thought initially was just a sprained ankle turned out to be a severe break of her tibia plateau which supports her knee.
She's had surgery, her leg is braced, and she will be unable to walk for 3 months. She is a freelance photographer and cannot work while she is recovering.
She had let go of her lease prior to the housesitting job in anticipation of leaving New Orleans, so she doesn't have a permanent residence. We are trying to find her temporary housing while she recovers, but she doesn't have the funds for this since she's out of work.
Melissa is a fun, adventurous, lighthearted, and independent person who is now having to rely on friends to care for her and Mika. She hopes to one day return to her photography career, but is facing a long, hard, painful recovery to get there.
We hope to raise enough money to provide Melissa and Mika a temporary home until she can walk again. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
