Melissa Marie Fraizer is my dear friend of over five years. Our friendship began when she and her husband, Denton, graciously opened their guest apartment to my husband and me while we waited for our new home to close in Brookings, OR. That act of kindness sparked a bond that has only grown stronger over the years, and I am grateful every day for Melissa’s friendship and support.
Now, Melissa is facing the fight of her life against Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. Since July 11, 2026, she has undergone 12 chemotherapy treatments under the care of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. The journey has required frequent travel between Houston and Corvalis, OR, where she receives her treatments, and the financial toll has been immense. Melissa had been able to work part-time in her role as a school psychologist, but recently has not due to the side effects of her treatments and has exhausted her medical leave as well, and Denton, who owns a small business, has also had to step away from work to be by her side. Despite their best efforts, the largest tumor on Melissa’s liver has not responded to chemotherapy, and her oncologist is now recommending a new round of chemo with a different drug, as well as Y-90 microsphere radiation therapy. This next phase will require them to remain in Houston, hoping that the treatments will shrink the tumor enough for surgery.
The donated funds will allow Melissa and Denton to stay in Houston for the duration of her new treatment regimen and surgery, covering medical bills, travel, and living expenses while they are away from home and unable to work. Friends, family, and Brookings neighbors—anything you could contribute financially would be a huge blessing to this family as they navigate such a devastating medical diagnosis and fight for Melissa’s life. Your support means the world to them, and together, we can help ease their burden during this incredibly difficult time.
