Support Meleza’s Recovery: Cancer & Fibroids

Donation protected
I have delayed the news of my diagnosis for many reasons however now is the time to share. On March 20th of this year I was diagnosed with Suspicion of Malignancy for Papillary Carcinoma in my right thyroid - in other words - Thyroid Cancer.

I went for a routine check up at my Primary Care Physician and to seek further support because I felt so drained, dizzy and out-of-whack all of the time due to chronic bleeding from a previously diagnosed intramural submucosal fibroid which, for me, invariably was a result of a lot of trauma to my womb from the Paragard IUD (I had it in my body for 11 years). I recently began iron transfusions and the difference between how I have been feeling for the past 16 months is wild - blood is life - even though I am far from “100%,” I am able to go a day without feeling like I am going to pass out - as long as I don’t have my menstrual cycle - it all goes wonky during that time.

There is so much more to share, however, I figured this would be a good start….

I have put on a brave face for the past 6 months, performing/organizing/curating/building/ traveling for work/ going out/ mixing and mingling/ attempting to hold onto a relationship that has been very taxing for the both of us/ natural disasters and all the twists and turns that life can offer at times. I will be honest, I am an EXTREME EXTROVERT and I get energy from community and being around others - it is EXTREMELY difficult for me to resource from staying at home and working on my computer doing admin whilst endeavoring to build as a solopreneur who has a deep yearning for entrepreneurship.

One of the most frustrating aspects of this is that I have been, and still am, in grief - The stages vary and shift and show up in all kinds of different ways. I went from feeling that “I got this” to anger/rage to despair to denial and repeating the cycle.

This form of Thyroid Cancer cannot be 100% claimed as such until they physically remove part or all of my Thyroid - in other words, they may remove my thyroid and say, “Oh, we THOUGHT you had moderate to severe cancer, however, we are wrong - now take a pill a day for the rest of your life.” With that being said, there are no genetic mutations of the cancer and the molecular testing results done in April did show “Moderate to Severe” chances of cancer. I did an Ultrasound with Mt.Sinai Miami Beach and then I did a second Ultrasound at the University of Miami - both results were different.

One result read the nodule to be a category V on the Bethesda scale and the second result read a Category IV. Ultimately, anything over a category III calls for imminent surgery and I have held off surgery as long as I can at this point with the information that I have and the resources that I currently have at the moment.

As far as I can tell at this time, the treatments that can support healing the fibroid and nodules without surgery are treatments that are not covered by government medical insurance (especially not Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO) and treatments that Mt. Sinai nor University of Miami have.

Treatments such as:

- Sonata
- HIFU
- BioEnergetic technology
- Sound Frequencies
- Etc

Every part of me wants to wish all of this away. The last thing I want to do is disappear for 1-3 months recovering and re-setting my nervous system and immune system. However, I have come to realize that this is the lesson - to slow down - and to utilize these experiences as a platform for others to learn and grow from as well.

I welcome all to support in the ways that feel most aligned for you and I am deeply grateful to those who sent funds last year when I was originally diagnosed with Pelvic Inflammatory disease, a ruptured ovarian cyst, polyp, fibroid and severe anemia.

This is an unprecedented curveball and a much longer haul - however, my ENT ONCOLOGIST will do another ultrasound on September 18th to see if the nodules have grown.

have decided to move forward with a full ABDOMINAL MYOMECTOMY to remove the 4.5cm fibroid that is lodged in my uterus and wreaking havoc in my day-to-day life and not allowing me the chance to have children at this time. I was told that I when I do decide to have a child, that more than likely I wil have to do a C-section - this news was very challenging for me to hear, as I fantasize about organic water births.

The first surgery is on 9/11 at Mt. Sinai Miami Beach at NOON with Dr. Larry Goldenberg. I will be hospitalized for 1-2 days and then I will be on strict bed rest for 1 week minimum with light walking and then another 2-6 weeks of recovery with no heavy lifting or added stress.

I don’t want to do surgery on my thyroid before trying every option possible, however time is ticking and I do not want to risk the cancer metastasizing, as of right now my thyroid levels are completely normal and the cancer has not spread to my lymph nodes. After the 3rd ultrasound on the 18th at UM, we will be able to compare all 3 results and determine whether we will do 1 more fine needle aspiration biopsy.

If I go through these processes and I am still in the same place I started or the nodule has grown - then I will know my answer and I will proceed with the partial Thyroid removal. My ENT Oncologist is Dr. Civantos at the University of Miami.

I would like to go to Hippocrates Wellness Center or Sanoviv or another Cancer Treatment Center that perhaps you know about or independent healers in the Miami/ South Florida area that can support me in this journey.

If you are able and resourced to donate financially, as I will not be able to do my bodywork for approximately 1-3 months, your generosity will support me during my time of recovery.
