Melba Crafton, a delivery driver for NAPA Auto Parts, is the heart and soul of her workplace and a beloved friend to many. Just recently, Melba came into work while suffering a stroke, and was taken by ambulance and put straight into Grand Strand's intensive care unit, where she will remain for the foreseeable future. Her journey has been incredibly difficult—she has no medical insurance, and she had lost her true soulmate when her husband passed due to cancer. Despite her own grief, Melba has worked extra hours at NAPA and taken on cleaning jobs at local businesses to keep up with the mortgage on the trailer she and her husband bought together.
Melba’s selflessness doesn’t stop there. When her grandchildren needed a safe place, she took them in without hesitation, even though it meant risking her job. Her belief that family always comes first is something everyone who knows her admires. Thankfully, her strong work ethic and perfect attendance inspired her employer to promise that her job would always be waiting for her. But the stress and strain of the past six months have been immense. After returning to work and lifting everyone’s spirits as she always does, Melba suffered a severe brain bleed stroke. She’s faced setback after setback—failing a swallow test, needing a stomach tube, developing pneumonia, and suffering a collapsed lung. At one point, doctors feared she wouldn’t survive surgery, but Melba’s strength pulled her through. She is still fighting, and her recovery will be long and uncertain.
Please give what you can, knowing you are helping someone truly worthy of support.
