If you know Melanie, you know her as someone who lights up the room with her humor, kindness, and unwavering strength. She’s the kind of person who, even on her hardest days, finds a way to make others smile—whether it’s cracking a joke or offering words of encouragement.

Now, Melanie needs our encouragement. She is in the biggest fight of her life.

A Life-Changing Diagnosis

Just before the holidays in December, Melanie went to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. What doctors found was devastating—a tumor on her pancreas. After further tests, it was confirmed to be pancreatic cancer.

If this sounds eerily familiar, it’s because Melanie has been on the other side of this battle before—just eight years ago, she stood by her husband, Jimmy, as he courageously fought colon cancer. Now, it's her turn to fight, and we refuse to let her fight alone.

The Battle She’s Facing

Melanie’s journey has already been full of hurdles. Delays in treatment caused her condition to worsen, leading to an emergency ERCP procedure to clear a bile duct blockage that was causing jaundice. Meanwhile, her tumor has grown and is dangerously close to a major artery, meaning surgery isn’t an option yet. Her only chance is aggressive chemotherapy—to shrink the tumor enough for potential surgery, followed by more chemo.

This brutal treatment has taken a toll on Melanie. She has lost a significant amount of weight, her energy is fading, and she is in excruciating pain every day. But despite it all, she refuses to give up. She still finds ways to joke, to laugh, and to stay the strong, resilient Melanie we all know and love.

Her Support System & Why We Need You

By her side, every step of the way, is her devoted husband, Jimmy, her loving parents, her beloved dog Poppy, and an incredible circle of family and friends. But even with all the love surrounding her, this battle is one no one can fight alone.

With medical bills piling up, travel expenses to UCSF for treatment, and lost income from being unable to work, Melanie and Jimmy are facing overwhelming financial stress. On top of that, Jimmy will soon have to take time off work to care for her full-time.
