Support Melanie, Rylan and their kids!

Dear friends and fellow Nelsonites,

This gofundme is being created to rally around Melanie and Rylan, who are currently dealing with a devastating health diagnosis. Melanie is facing an unexpected and challenging battle. In the fall, she was diagnosed with brain cancer, necessitating emergency surgery. This comes after bravely fighting breast cancer between 2019-2022, only for it to resurface in a different form.

Melanie had to leave her job at Esprit De La Femme to focus on her health. Lots of us also fondly remember her as a chef at the Rice Bowl, Rice, Max & Irma's and the Co-op deli, where she brightened our days with her fun personality, easy going demeanour, mad kitchen skills and awesome sense of humour.

Arguably Nelson's cutest family, Melanie & Rylan have two kids who are the centre of their universe. This is the hardest part for Melanie, facing the reality that she won't always be there for them. Rylan is currently working at Sensible Solutions and plays guitar at local restaurants, notably the Outer Clove on Fridays. He’s working a ton (leaving Melanie on her own) and is also carrying the majority of the load at home while she takes on this latest battle.

This campaign is created to alleviate some of the burdens they are facing. The funds raised will be used to provide things like takeout meals, support for any extended health appointments Melanie may need, and give them the opportunity to enjoy this precious time with their kids.
