I've started this GoFundMe to raise money for my sister, Melanie Farmer.

Mel Lives in Tipton, Iowa with her loving husband of 19 years, Clyde, and their 16-year-old son, Brycen.

She followed her passion for hair and cosmetology since 1998 to become the Administrator of La'James International College in Davenport, Iowa in 2016 as well as a hair designer at Trends & Traditions Salon. Mel loves her staff, students, and just her career in general.

On August 8, 2025, Mel was diagnosed with cervical cancer following an abnormal pap smear. Her team of doctors at the University of Iowa went to work with biopsies and scans to determine how far the cancer had spread.

Mel was scheduled for a radical hysterectomy and a lymphadenectomy on November 6, 2025. This 5.5-hour surgery should have been the start of her recovery. However, once the surgeon got my sister open, he found that the cancerous cells had spread far more than expected. To mitigate the risks of spreading the cancer, they chose to not surgically remove it. They removed a singular lymph node and her fallopian tube and ovary on one side to biopsy and closed her back up.

Melanie now faces chemo and radiation. She has a follow up on Monday, December 8 to determine the extent of her treatment.

Due to her recent diagnosis, she has already had to miss 4 weeks of work - with many more to come.

In addition to her lost wages, the treatments are going to be costly as well. Her bills are already adding up - even though she has yet to begin the hardest part of her recovery.
