Support Mekhi’s Fight Against Aplastic Anemia

Hi, my name is Taylor Alexander, and I’m a mother fighting for my son’s life.
Right before Christmas, my 12-year-old son, Mekhi, suddenly became very sick. What we thought was a minor illness quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. After multiple hospital visits, tests, and long, terrifying days of waiting, we received devastating news — Mekhi was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, a rare and serious bone marrow failure disorder.
Since then, our lives have completely changed. Mekhi now requires frequent hospital care, blood transfusions, medications, and is preparing for a bone marrow transplant in another state to survive. He currently has a PICC line and faces daily medical challenges no child should have to endure.
Before all of this, Mekhi was a happy, active kid who loves music, football, and basketball. He was so proud to make his school basketball team this year, but because of his illness, he is unable to play. Watching him miss out on the things he loves most has been heartbreaking.
In the middle of all of this, my oldest son has stepped up to be Mekhi’s donor. I am beyond grateful for his bravery and love for his brother. However, this has placed a heavy burden on him. He is in his 8th grade year, a time meant for school milestones and memories — and he has had to miss many of them to stand by our family during this crisis. No child should have to carry this weight, yet he does so with strength far beyond his years.
Because of Mekhi’s fragile health and weakened immune system, I have also had to take my other two children out of school to protect him from infections. This has completely changed our daily lives and added emotional and financial strain to our family.
On top of caring for Mekhi and supporting my children, I am also recovering from my own health issues, making this journey even more challenging. Some days feel impossible — but I refuse to give up on my children.
In the coming week, we will be traveling to another state for Mekhi’s transplant and treatment, meaning we will be away from home for an extended period. This brings added expenses for travel, lodging, meals, and time away from work. Any support will help keep our family financially stable during this long and difficult journey.
I am asking for support — whether through a donation, a share, or a prayer. Every act of kindness helps keep our family afloat while we focus on Mekhi’s treatment and healing.
Thank you for reading our story and for standing with us during the hardest time of our lives.
With love and gratitude,
