Megan Freshley is a poet and friend to many in Cincinnati OH and Portland OR, known for her humor, creativity, kindness, and resilience. At just 30 years old, Megan was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and damage to the kidneys. Her kidney function has gradually declined, and after several donor opportunities fell through, she is now in kidney failure.
Thankfully, her dear friend and fellow poet, Brett Price, has stepped forward to donate a kidney, giving Megan a new chance at life. Megan’s surgery is scheduled for March, and while she is deeply grateful for this opportunity, the road to recovery will be challenging. She will be completely off her feet and unable to lift more than 10 pounds for at least six weeks, then unable to work for an additional 6. During these three months, Megan will receive 60% of her income through FMLA, but she faces significant medical expenses and will struggle to pay for food and rent while on a reduced income.
Megan works as a cybersecurity copywriter and looks forward to returning to work when she’s well enough. In her free time, she loves playing the drums, participating in a photography club, and writing poetry—she’s working on a full-length book.
Megan’s friends and family are rallying around her, and any support you can offer will help a lot. Please consider donating to help Megan through this difficult time. With your help, she can focus on healing and look forward to feeling healthy for the first time in years. Thank you for being part of Megan’s journey to recovery!
PS: If you're able to provide a meal while Megan is recovering, please add yourself to the schedule on her Meal Train page. Together we can get her through this tough time. Thanks again.
