Megan is a wonderful, loving mother that lives with her husband Erik and two boys, 6 and 4. When Megan and Erik found out they were pregnant they were both overjoyed, even more so when they were told it was a girl!

Unfortunately, Megan recently began to feel very ill. After an initial doctors visit at Geisinger, Megan and Erik were given the devastating news that the baby has hydrops fetalis. This is a condition where the babies body fills with fluid, and was also causing symptoms in Megan. The first guess by doctors was that there was a chromosomal defect, and to prepare for the worst. After a visit to CHOP in Philadelphia, specialists discovered that the baby has a hernia (a hole) in her diaphragm. As a result, her spleen, intestines, and liver moved up through the hole and are crowding the heart, causing excess fluid, and preventing the lungs from properly forming.

Despite the diagnosis, all hope is not lost. The specialist team at CHOP need Megan to be in Philadelphia three days every week, so they can drain fluid from the baby and to monitor Megan’s condition. Her husband Erik is the sole source of income for the family, and cannot afford to stop working for the next month and a half. They have their two young boys to think about. They have so much to think about….how to get there (so often and so far away), where to stay, how to pay for it all, will our baby girl be ok, will Megan be ok?!?

As her brother, I wish I could do more to help. As a father of two girls, I can’t even image what they are going through and the thoughts constantly running through their heads. Please help to alleviate the financial burden, one of their many worries!!! Any money donated would greatly help them with traveling, lodging, food, and medical expenses.
