It is with disbelief and utter heartbreak that I find myself writing another GoFundMe this year. Many of you remember that my little sister Jill received a heart transplant earlier this year due to the rare gene that our mother also had. Her journey has been no cakewalk, but many of you donated and made that walk a little easier. I am once again asking for support in any way you can for my other little sister, Megan.
Megan found herself in the ER last week with concerning symptoms. She has since been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma with a massive tumor crushing one of her lungs and starting to wrap around her heart. While they were running tests on the tumor, they found out that Megan is also in congestive heart failure. They were able to get her stabilized in the ICU, but this has been a 1-2 gut punch. Finding out she has the gene that killed our mother and put Jill on her terrifying transplant journey is one thing, but having the tumor and cancer on top of it is just... I have no words. Doctors are still trying to figure out the best route for treatment. The reality is daunting, but if you know Megan, you know that she is as stubborn as they come, and she is going to need every ounce of that toughness she has and then some. Megan has always been a hard worker, and relinquishing a provider role is very stressful and devastating to her. She has always been a fighter for her daughter, and now her daughter needs Megan to be a fighter for herself. That means leaning on her family and community for support. The road is still so unknown, but we know she will not be able to work for at a minimum of 6 months. We are praying she gets to start chemo as soon as next week and her heart gets and stays strong enough to give her a fighting chance.
I am asking you to donate or share this GoFundMe on behalf of Megan, her husband John, and her daughter Kody. John will be taking on a major caretaking role that will also keep him from work, a role no spouse can ever prepare for. I know this is a tough season for a lot of people, but any donation will be so important. Once again, from every part of my heart, thank you.
