Support Megan Reid's Battle Against Brain Tumor
Donazione protetta
Hello, I am Sasha-Gay Reid, daughter of Megan Mantle-Reid who is currently battling with a brain tumor. I cannot recall my mom ever being ill apart from a hysterectomy that she did some 16 years ago as a result of fibroids. She was always vibrant and hardworking, undertaking multiple jobs and small-scale farming to raise her four (4) children, as well as being an active community and church member.
Suffice to say that we were taken by surprise when she began to act very strange in September of 2024. From erratic behaviors, slurred and incoherent speech, loss of mobility and memory, unbearable headaches to uncontrollable seizures. The once bubbly and active 56-year-old was rendered helpless and dependent for simple task such as feeding herself.
Despite the multiple visits and laboratory test, examinations and hospitalization between September 2024 to March 2025, doctors were unable to properly diagnose her until we decided to consult her trusted family physician. It was then that he recommended a repeated MRI at a different lab, and it was found that a 3.6 x 6.4 x 4.8 cm tumor was growing aggressively on the right frontal lobe of her brain. As we grappled with the diagnosis and the looming medical cost, we took her to the University Hospital of the West Indies where she underwent a craniotomy on April 15, 2025. CT-Scans following the surgery revealed that the malignant tumor as since regrown.
Based on the circumstances she is unable to undergo another surgery at this time. However, we are seeking to consult overseas neurosurgeons to determine whether chemotherapy or other appropriate methods are available to treat the tumor. Furthermore, the hospital has since discharged her, and homecare is imminent, pending the purchase of a PEG tube.
The interim medical bill as of April 22,2025 stands at JMD$2,068,765.83. Besides the burden of the ever-increasing medical bill, we have out of pocket purchases for pharmaceuticals, patient care items such as diapers, feeds, ointments, etc. to deal with.
Your contribution in cash or kind, no matter how small, would greatly assist in offsetting her medical expenses, purchase medications and treatments, and assist with basic living cost such as mortgage and utilities. If you are unable to donate you can help by sharing this campaign to raise awareness and rallying support for our cause through your network and contacts.
Here is a breakdown of what the money raised will be used for:
1. To cover current hospital fees.
2. To pay for chemotherapy, if approved.
3. To purchase lifesaving medications such as Clexane to prevent blood clot for bedridden patients. Keppra for epilepsy management, Panadeine for pain, etc.
4. To cover hospital fees for patient care at a step-down care facility.
5. To purchase personal care products such as diapers, wipes, feeds, bed pads, etc.
Your support will play a crucial role in positively changing the life of a mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, and friend. I am confident that together, we can make a real difference.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our request. Your support means a great deal to us, and we sincerely appreciate your consideration.
The funds raised on GoFundMe will be received by a trusted representative who lives in Florida, USA, since she meets all GoFundMe requirements for receiving funds and Jamaica is an unsupported GoFundMe country. Once the donations are withdrawn to the representative’s bank account, the representative will then transfer the funds to me via money transfer service.
Thank you once again for your time, consideration and generosity.
