Megalinda: More Than a Sister, She’s My Lifelong Companion
Megalinda is more than just a dog to me; she’s my life companion. I’ll never forget the day I first saw her. She was just one month old, and I was 11. It was a love I had always dreamed of. My brother and I had longed for a pet, and Megalinda was the gift life gave us—a source of happiness, tenderness, and strength through all the challenges we’ve faced since 2011.
From the moment I laid eyes on her, I was smitten. She was like a tiny snowball—white, small, curly, with little black eyes and a black nose. For years, she has filled our lives with joy. Now, Megalinda is 13 years old, and I’m 24.
Just like us, Megalinda migrated to New York and became a true New Yorker. She loves squirrels, enjoys long walks, and at 13, she experienced snow for the first time. She’s seen raccoons, ridden the subway and ferry, and remains playful as ever. When we take her to Target, people always stop to compliment her because she’s so sweet and beautiful. Although she’s technically a senior dog, her playful personality and youthful appearance make her seem like a puppy. No one ever guesses she’s 13—they’re always surprised because she acts like she’s half her age.
We affectionately call her “Megaloca” because she’s bursting with energy and happiness. She hops around like a bunny and loves to bark. She’s always been in great health—until last week, when our world turned upside down. Suddenly, the aging we thought would never come arrived, bringing with it tumors and masses in her abdomen. In just a few days, they grew larger, leaving her in a heartbreaking state. She stopped eating, stopped playing, and spent her days lying in bed, looking at us as if she was in pain.
We took her to the vet, where they prescribed medication for pain and inflammation, but the tests and surgery she urgently needs are beyond what we can afford. Every day that passes, the risk of her tumors ulcerating or rupturing increases, which would cause her immense pain and lead to infection, endangering her quality of life.
As a family, we want Megalinda to have a peaceful and pain-free old age. We want her to continue filling our home with love and life. That’s why we’re asking for your help. Your contribution will help us cover the cost of her surgery and recovery, giving us hope that she can return to her happy, playful self.
Thank you for reading and for any support you can give. It means the world to us. ♥️
