Hope for Meer: Help a Brave 7-Year-Old Fight Brain Cancer

On April 17, 2025, life changed forever for 7-year-old Meer and his family. After weeks of persistent headaches, his mom took him to the Sidra Pediatric Emergency Room in Doha, Qatar—where they had already been twice before with the same concern. This time they performed an MRI. The words that followed were every parent’s worst nightmare:

“Your son has a posterior fossa tumor. He needs brain surgery—immediately.”

Just three days later on Easter Sunday, April 20th, Meer underwent a 10-hour surgery. Thursday of the same week, April 24th, Meer underwent a second surgery. The tumor was identified as Medulloblastoma, an aggressive pediatric brain cancer. The aftermath of surgery brought another difficult diagnosis: Posterior Fossa Syndrome (PFS), also known as Cerebellar Mutism Syndrome. It has left Meer unable to speak, sit up, turn his head, swallow, or even lift a thumb in response.

Despite the surgery’s success in removing the tumor, the side effects have been devastating. Meer is now in the fight of his life—not only against cancer, but to regain his basic abilities.

What’s Happening Now
Meer is currently undergoing daily radiation therapy, five days a week for six weeks. He will then begin chemotherapy around August 4, a journey that will last many months.

As a result of the surgery, Meer also lost the ability to regulate his cerebral spinal fluid, requiring a VP shunt (brain drain). He has already had two external drains and will need another surgery to internalize a permanent shunt once radiation is complete.

Despite everything, Meer is working hard with therapy teams to slowly regain function. His progress is measured in the tiniest of movements—and every flicker of progress feels like a miracle.

Meer’s mom is a dedicated university lecturer at Qatar University. While she has good insurance, it comes with a cap, and many critical services, therapies, and equipment needed for Meer’s care at home may not be fully covered—or may require a large refundable deposit.

These may include:

At-home medical equipment (wheelchair, hospital bed, adaptive tools)
Ongoing physical, speech, and occupational therapy
Future surgeries and follow-up care
Travel expenses for specialists or treatments
Modifications to living spaces for safety and accessibility
We have been overwhelmed by the love and prayers from people around the world. Many of you have asked how you can help. This is a way to support Meer and his recovery.

Meer is brave. He is fighting. And he is surrounded by fierce love—from his Mom and Dad, his family, and now from all of you.

Thank you for being part of Team Meer.
