Running for Gaza

My name is Richard Goldwasser. I live just outside Chicago and I’ll be running the Mont Blanc 23km at the end of June. I'm running for a Chicago-area humanitarian and charitable organization, MedGlobal, which is providing critical health services to Palestinians in Gaza.

Since 2017, MedGlobal has worked to build the capacity of healthcare systems within countries affected by armed conflict, natural disasters, a lack of resources, and climate change. They have worked with national healthcare systems and individual hospitals and health facilities to design training and education for their healthcare workers, to improve physical infrastructure, policies, and protocols, and to provide the medications, medical supplies, equipment, and technology that they need to treat their patients. MedGlobal’s culturally diverse teams respond to the world’s humanitarian crisis by partnering with communities to provide innovative, sustainable, and dignified healthcare.

What They Did in 2024

As the crisis escalated, MedGlobal scaled up its response at every opportunity. Their teams provided critical healthcare across Gaza, treating nearly 2,000 patients every day—at times reaching up to 4,000. They operated up to 16 medical points and comprehensive health centers, delivering primary care, maternal health services, pediatric care, chronic disease management, mental health support, and free medications. Additionally, their stabilization centers treated severe acute malnutrition, reaching over 1,500 children each month. In total, they directly served more than 570,000 people, trained 1,100 healthcare workers, and provided over $12.3 million in medical supplies.
