As the government shutdown stretches on, families across DC, Maryland, and Virginia are feeling the strain of paused SNAP benefits and/or missed paychecks. Every donation helps us get food into kitchens quickly and reliably, and all proceeds go toward purchasing ingredients and assembling as many bags as possible.
- To offer quick, practical support, we’re assembling “meals in a bag” filled with shelf-stable items that will create one full meal for a family of four, along with a recipe card. A $5-8 contribution sponsors one complete meal bag. You are absolutely welcome to make a larger contribution to create multiple meal bags.
- A $10 donation sponsors a birthday in a box which includes everything needed to make a birthday cake, some decorations, and a card.
- With Thanksgiving just around the corner, you can also make a $40 donation to sponsor a full Thanksgiving meal for 10 people.
In a moment when federal support is on hold, community care steps forward. Thank you for helping us keep our neighbors nourished.
Details
These meal kits and birthday boxes will be assembled by members of the GW Law community on a rolling basis, as funds come in. They will then be spread out to various food banks in the DMV area, including: Capital Area Food Bank, Bread for the City, Food for All DC, DC Central Kitchen, Martha's Table, and Manna Food Bank.
