We are excited to announce that our community and beyond joined together to successfully secure a chance of hosting an Indigenous Lactation Counselor Training here in Mashpee. Thank you to all who participated as your input helped us to achieve the only application to receive a perfect score!
This fall we will be hosting Indigenous Women and Men interested in building their skills and ability to share knowledge of our first food and medicine, breastmilk. Instructors Camie Jae Goldhammer, MSW, LICSW, IBCLC (Sisseton-Wahpeton) and Kimberly Moore-Salas, IBCLC (Diné) will lead this five-day training/45 hour, September 23-27, 2024 in Mashpee MA.
This training is open to all abilities regardless of prior experiences with breastfeeding and first foods, participants are encouraged to have a strong desire to utilize the education gained to counsel their communities in the future. Techniques gained will include How to Breastfeed, Alternative Feeding Methods, Father and Family Support, Historical Trauma and Parenting Practices, Food Sovereignty and much more.
At this time, we are fundraising to cover the cost of meals for our trainees/guests as this is the only portion of the training that is not covered financially. Any additional funds received will be used to offer housing stipends to community members committed to housing participants for the duration of the training. It is our goal to make this training completely FREE of Charge so that cost will not be a factor for those who want to participate and for those coming from around the country.
