My name is Leidy Gómez, I am 28 years old. On May 8, 2014 I was a victim of an armed robbery while I was working. I received two bullet hits, one on my face and the other one on my neck. The last one gave me a spinal cord injury at a level C4-C5-C6, I had to to go under surgery 4 times in order to remove the bullets from my face and neck. I was intubated for 14 days and then with a tracheostomy for another 2 months because I could not breath on my own. All medical authorities told me, I could no longer move my body or that I couldn't even breathe on my own. I kept fighting and I begun physical therapy even though I couldn't move or feel my body. I never stopped doing physical therapy. Today, I can proudly say that all my efforts were worth it. It was worth it to have to endure all the pain that I went through and that am still going through. As of today, I am able to breathe by myself again, I’ve gotten back some movement and feeling, all-around my body. Even though I still experience some pain and irritability to touch, I greatly appreciate it. I also have gained mobility in my four limbs, some more than others. Sadly, my country - Venezuela- is going through a very tough situation because of the dictatorship, system we live in. One of the consequences is that I’ve had to go without medical treatment nor physical therapy. For this reason, my parents and I had decided that this year we’d come to Miami to continue my physical rehab. That being said, I have found great support from the Doctors, who reside in this awesome City, they all have given me hope to keep going, little by little- to reach my ultimate goal; which is my independency. That is why I come to you, I’ll be honest, my rehab hours are very expensive, and I need many of them for my recovery given that I show much weakness on my back, abdomen, arms, and my right leg. Nonetheless, since every step counts, what ever you would like to donate for me would be enough. Thank you in advance for reading my story, and if I receive any help to pay for my rehabilitation , I promise to put all my energy and effort into meeting my goal. Along with the Neuro Fit360 team, my family and I would like to see my evolution in a year of intensive physical therapy, and this is the goal in which I would like for you to help me reach. Mi nombre es Leidy Gomez, tengo 28 años. El 8 de mayo del 2014 fui víctima de un robo con arma de fuego mientras me encontraba trabajando, recibí dos impactos de proyectil, uno en mi cara y otro en mi cuello. Este último me ocasionó una lesión medular a nivel C4-C5-C6, fui operada 4 veces para retirar el proyectil del cuello y una mas para retirar el otro que tenia en mi boca, estuve entubada durante 14 días y luego con traqueostomia por otros 2 meses debido a que no podía respirar por mi misma. En contra de todo pronóstico médico que me decía que nunca mas volvería a mover mi cuerpo y nisiquiera respirar por mi cuenta, seguí luchando y comencé con mis terapias físicas que aunque no tenia ningún movimiento o sensación por debajo de mi lesión (desde mi cuello hacia abajo), yo no dejaría de hacerlo. Y hoy puedo decir que valio la pena todo sacrificio y dolor que he pasado, logre respirar sola de nuevo, recupere parte de la sensación en cada parte de mi cuerpo que aunque llego con mucho dolor e irritabilidad al tacto la agradezco enormemente, además también he recuperado movilidad en mis cuatro extremidades, algunas mas que otras. Lamentablemente mi país Venezuela atraviesa una fuerte situación que me ha tocado lidiar junto con mi lesión y que cada día me ha ido dejando sin médico tratante ni terapeutas, por eso este año decidí junto a mis padres venir a Miami a continuar con mi rehabilitación, consiguiendo gran apoyo del equipo médico con el que cuenta esta gran ciudad y que me dan esperanza para seguir logrando poco a poco mi independencia. Por eso acudo a ti, ya que cada hora de rehabilitación es muy costosa y son muchas horas las que aún necesito para mi recuperación, ya que presento mucha debilidad en mi espalda, abdomen, brazo y pierna derecha. Pero como cada grano cuenta lo que me desees donar será suficiente. Gracias de antemano por leer mi historia, y si puedes ayudarme a pagar mi rehabilitación te prometo que pondre toda mi energía para lograr mi tan anhelada meta. Junto con el equipo de Neurofit360, queremos ver mi evolución en un año de terapia intensiva y esta es la meta que quiero me ayudes a lograr. Un camino largo que aún me queda por recorrer a mi y a mis padres, que espero nos acompañes.
