My name is Yasser Balousha, a 25-year-old young man... I used to live a simple life, love peace, believe in hope, and dream of a future like any other young person.
But suddenly, everything collapsed.
In a single moment, everything was taken from me... I lost my mother, my brother, his wife, and his young children. Eight members of my family disappeared under the rubble of our home... and all I have left of them is memories and tears.

I now live among the rubble, in the northern Gaza Strip, in an area that no longer knows anything of life except the sound of planes, the whizzing of bombs, and the cries of mothers.
All I ask is not to sleep in the pain of hunger, to feel that someone in this world sees me... hears me... feels me.
600 days of slow death... no food, no medicine, no safety...
600 days of bombs tearing apart the air, homes, and hearts.
Hungry, hurting, exhausted, broken.
Even the air we breathe is poisoned, and night brings not sleep, but fear and hunger.
I'm no longer searching for a luxurious life, nor for big dreams... All I want today is to fill my stomach with something to satisfy my hunger, and to feel for a moment that I am a human being like everyone else.
I'm tired... Sadness has eaten away at my heart, hunger has worn down my body, and disappointment has crushed my soul.
Everything is lost... My home, my family, my work, even my beautiful soul that I saw in the mirror every morning, lost amidst the rubble.
I address your hearts, not your pockets...
I address the conscience of everyone who still believes that a human being deserves life, and that a helping hand is not asked why it was extended.

I appeal to you today, not as a beggar, but as a person who has nothing left but hope in your mercy.
