Hello my name is Moises Aaron Lagos Cerrato, I am 28 years old and I live in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I´m a psychology graduate from the Catholic University of Honduras and I am currently working as an Administrative assistant in a pharmacy, I’ve been working there since I started college making it 9 years now.
I am a patient with severe bilateral microtia (congenital deformity where the external ear is underdeveloped), agenesis (lack of development) of the left external auditory canal and moderate paralysis of left hemiface.
However, my main struggle at this time is the fact that my hearing had deteriorated when in 2012 I was diagnosed with a severe infection in my eardrum due to a perforation on my right tympanic membrane, so I had to have emergency surgery and as I result of it I had an abnormal closure of the external ear canal. In a later attempt to try to fix this, I had an unsuccessful re permeabilization of the right ear canal because it closed again a month later and since then my hearing has greatly diminished.
In 2013, I was advised to wear a bone conduction hearing aid that would improve my functional hearing. The device did allow me to continue with my studies, and it helped me a great deal to perform during these past years but with time I started experiencing certain struggles and issues using the hearing aid.
One of the issues is the fact that the bone conduction hearing aid causes me bad headaches due to the pressure on my head and even if i try to loosen up the device it still is very uncomfortable. For instance, when I play sports, i need to remove the device from my head and that has complicated my relationships with others, for example they might call me, and I simply can´t hear them, I’m basically deaf at those moments.
In a professional aspect, it has caused a lot of challenges because at times my hearing is very distorted, so I’m forced to ask of my coworkers and clients to repeat themselves during a conversation. Another thing I struggle with is that the bone conduction hearing aid doesn´t offer the best quality aesthetics-wise because with time with the sweat from my head the parts tend to unglue and fall apart.
A couple years ago, my Phono-Audiologist Nora Garcia and my ENT Doctor Jesus Aguilar Paredes talked to me about a device that would be great for me, since I have severe bilateral conductive hypoacusis/diminished hearing loss with a osteoaerial separation of 46db on both ears which allows me to have a good cochlear reserve, meaning they consider me an ideal patient for a device called BAHA (Bone-anchored Hearing Aid).
Nonetheless, this is a very expensive device plus the medical procedures involved (surgery and medical tests) and my current financial situation doesn’t allow me to be able to afford it and that is the reason why I’m using this platform to kindly ask for your help to achieve my dream of a better hearing and to be able to perform again in my daily activities the best way I can.
My goal is to raise US$20,000 (the cost of the BAHA itself is US$17,000 but considering the deduction fees for using the gofundme platform, I estimate the amount of US$20,000) to cover all expenses and I am confident that with your help I can do it! Along with this letter I am attaching the BAHA quote.

Hola, me llamo Moises Aaron Lagos Cerrato, tengo 28 años de edad y vivo en TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS. Soy egresado de la UNIVERSIDAD CATOLICA DE HONDURAS en Lic. Psicología. Actualmente trabajo en Farmacia ocupando el puesto de asistente Administrativo lugar donde llevo 9 años laborando desde que inicié mis estudios universitarios hasta el día de hoy.
Soy paciente con microtia bilateral severa, agenesia de conducto auditivo externo (CAE) izquierdo y parálisis moderada de hemicara izquierda.
Ahora bien, mi problema principal es mi audición que se había complicado en el año 2012 cuando se detecta que tengo una infección severa en el tímpano a raíz de una perforación membrana timpánica derecha, fui operado de urgencia, pero los resultados es que presente un cierre anómalo de CAE por lo cual se realizó una Re permeabilización de CAE derecho sin éxito ya que se volvió a cerrar al mes y desde ahí mi audición ha disminuido enormemente.
En el 2013, se decide colocarme una diadema ósea que mejoraría mi audición funcional, la cual me permitió seguir estudiando, con esto logre desenvolverme durante estos años pero he presentado con el tiempo molestias y dificultades con el uso del aparato. Una de ellas es que la diadema ósea me causa jaqueca por la presión en la cabeza y aun queriendo regular la diadema siempre he sentido la molestia, en mis actividades deportivas debo retirarme el aparato y eso me ha dificultado en relacionarme con las demás personas, gritan, me llaman y no logro escucharlos cuando estoy en las actividades deportivas, es decir mi audición es nula. En el aspecto laboral se me está dificultando ya que a veces escucho muy distorsionado y debo pedir a los clientes/ compañeros de trabajo que repitan lo que me dicen cuando estamos en conversación. Además la calidad de la diadema ósea en cuanto a lo estético no es la mejor ya que con el tiempo con el sudor se van despegando piezas.
Hace años atrás mi fono audiología Nora García y otorrino Dr. Jesús Aguilar Paredes me hablaron acerca de un aparato que mejoraría mis problemas ya que presento Hipoacusia Conductiva Bilateral severa con separación osteoaerea de 46db ambos oídos que me permite tener buena reserva coclear, considerandome un paciente ideal para un aparato llamado B.A.H.A ( Bone – Anchored Hearing Aid) ( Implante osea-integrado BAHA)
Este es un aparato muy costoso junto los procedimientos médicos (cirugía y exámenes médicos) y mi situación económica no me permite adquirirlo, por esa razon solicito de sus apoyo para poder llegar a cumplir mi deseo de tener una mejor audición y poder desenvolverme nuevamente de la mejor forma en mis actividades diarias.
