Hi, my name is Janellee Rivera and my first semester at the University of South Florida was August 23rd, 2021. I am an autistic young woman who faced a lot of social and academic difficulties in my life, and I started pursuing further education with the expectation of graduating in 2025, relying on an advisor to guide me along the way, and struggling to find what I wanted to do afterward. Well, that didn’t end up happening. After the first semester, I learned how to manage my own schedule. Ever since I have been taking at least five classes a semester and three classes a summer. I haven’t taken a break since I started and it’s all starting to pay off as I reach my last year. Signing up for this study-abroad trip is truly way out of my comfort zone but it guaranteed my graduation this December by giving me the 6 credits I needed to move forward. This was a huge opportunity for not only my academics but also for my own personal goal. Traveling has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. I want to see the world. In high school, I bought a journal with the intention of using it to document the different places I travel to throughout my life. As of now, it’s empty, and I would like for you to help me change that. This study-abroad trip may be a life-changing opportunity, however, it’s expensive, and the cost is far more than what I can afford. Even with bright futures, and the money my dad has saved up for my college, I would still have to pay $4,680 out of pocket. I’ve been trying to work more, but recently I had to reduce the number of hours I’m working because this semester has been my hardest. I’m constantly busy, either at work or in my room doing weekly essays, quizzes, and discussion boards. I’m still saving up money, but not enough. Which is why I’m asking for your help. If you feel it in your heart to donate, I will accept anything you could offer because anything will help. By donating, you are not only helping me afford the program, but also the food and essentials I would need to buy during the trip, which are not provided in the program cost. Thank you so much for supporting me, and I will be sure to keep everyone updated on my journey.
