Support Mc's Journey to Recovery and Mobility
Donation protected
Last March, we took Mc to the hospital when his body started uncontrollably spasming. We spent two weeks in the hospital doing thorough imaging and testing. Lesions were found on his spine- when Mc was 7 he had spinal meningitis. While most people do not recover from spinal meningitis, those who do recover experience immune system disorder and "neuronal sequelae" such as spinal lesions, seizures, peripheral neuropathy (numbness, pain, and weakness/inability to use limbs), and neuronal degeneration. To complicate Mc's situation, he was hit in a car accident in 2015, causing a fracture in his lower back. This combination of neuronal, immunological, and structural factors have compounded over time, leading to a severe "flare up" in which Mc has been in severe pain with very limited mobility since March 2024. We will be completing more tests this coming March to see if he meets the McDonald criteria for a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. He has currently been given a diagnosis of transverse myelitis and spastic tetraplegia.
We are currently working on Mc's recovery. This involves physical therapy, and a daily wellness routine (stretching, massage, meditation, diet, sleep etc.). Both Mc's primary neurologist and other second opinions have told us that they feel like intravenous ketamine treatment (which is not covered by insurance) would be incredibly helpful to allow Mc to break out of this current flare up and mitigate further neuronal degeneration. Our own experience and research leads us to feel like this is an essential next step for treatment (feel welcome to contact us for more info/literature).
We have found a clinic on Maui that does intravenous ketamine treatment! And, they offer it for a fraction of the cost that is typical for such a treatment. We are hoping to get your help in quickly raising the $4000 we need for this procedure -- while we know we can eventually pull the money together ourselves and asking for help is...embarrassing, we also know that we can minimize degeneration by starting treatment sooner rather than later. We appreciate any and all help you can give us!
