Just over a month ago, McKenna and Dakota received the devastating news that their beautiful one-year-old daughter, Hope, has a rare and fatal genetic condition called Cockayne Syndrome. This condition will drastically shorten her life expectancy, and the news has left everyone who loves her heartbroken and reeling.

While searching for answers and a diagnosis for Hope, McKenna learned she was pregnant with their third child. Amid the uncertainty, this new pregnancy felt like a small glimmer of hope in an incredibly difficult time.

Tragically, this week they found out that their baby also carries the same genetic mutation as Hope, meaning this child would also be affected by Cockayne Syndrome. Faced with an impossible decision no parents should ever have to make, McKenna and Dakota have chosen to proceed with a termination for medical reasons (TFMR) — a decision made out of deep love and compassion for their baby.

This procedure, along with the associated travel, lodging, and medical expenses, is not covered by insurance. On top of the ongoing costs of Hope’s care and medical needs, these unexpected expenses have created a heavy financial burden.
