Support Maynor's Whipple Surgery and Recovery

Hello, this is Matt. I am a friend, colleague, and admirer of Maynor. When I first met Maynor, I was instantly taken with his extraordinary drive and passion as an accomplished cabinetmaker and finish carpenter. I knew he was a person I would one day love to work with and help grow my fledgling construction company. That day came in 2023. Not only did Maynor bring his masterful skills and strong work ethic to our small developing enterprise, he brought his warmth, a can-do attitude and problem-solving prowess that knows no bounds.

We have since learned that Maynor has lived with Type 1 diabetes for most of his life and that he narrowly survived a botched gallbladder operation as a young adult—and has an impressive scar to show for it. Nevertheless, Maynor has managed to keep his diabetes under control while always performing at the highest level and providing for his family.

In January, life threw Maynor yet another curve ball. He developed jaundice and headed straight to urgent care, where an X-ray identified a tumor in his pancreas. Instead of a fun-filled week he had planned to spend with his thirteen year old son at the tail end of the holiday school break, Maynor was admitted to the hospital for a prolonged stay of waiting and further testing. A long awaited biopsy turned out to be negative, concluding that the tumor was benign. We all breathed a huge sigh of relief. Our elation was unfortunately short-lived when early this month blood tests indicated a positive result for pancreatic cancer.

Maynor now faces the biggest challenge of his life. He will undergo a Whipple procedure next week. It is a long, arduous and complicated surgery to remove the head of Maynor’s pancreas, parts of the bile duct, small intestine, possibly part of the stomach, and ordinarily the gallbladder, which—in Maynor’s case—has already been removed as mentioned above. And finally, his digestive tract will be reconstructed.

Anyone who knows Maynor knows he is a devoted husband, father, and hardworking provider for his family. He is a dedicated craftsman and a beloved member of the local building community.

We have no doubt Maynor has the tenacity to get through this daunting surgery though the recovery process is lengthy. But that is only part of the challenge that lies ahead. At a time when Maynor should be focusing on the procedure and the healing that follows, medical costs compounded by the substantial loss of income weigh heavily on him and his family.

I am starting this GoFundMe to hopefully ease the financial burden on my friend Maynor and his family during this incredibly difficult time. Maynor’s recovery is expected to take two months, during which time Maynor will be unable to work and earn an income.

If you are able to donate any amount or share this page, it would mean so much to all of us. All your financial support will help cover Maynor’s medical costs and his family’s household expenses that include rent, groceries, and bills. Last but not least, we are especially grateful for your prayers and positive thoughts.
