On January 15th, Maya was in a serious car accident while at work that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Since then, she’s been courageously relearning to navigate life and daily tasks we so often take for granted. Due to the extent of the injuries she sustained while working, Maya was let go from her job. As Maya continues her recovery, she’s unable to work and her medical needs are only being met until end of September. Her daughter, who is high need, also lost her health coverage. We’re raising funds to help cover COBRA Insurance for her daughter, to make sure she can stay insured during this critical time.
Our goal is to secure at least three months of coverage with a hopeful stretch goal of six months or more to give Maya time to focus on healing without additional stress. Every contribution no matter the size will help Maya’s daughter stay covered. Maya is showing incredible strength, but this journey is long and hard! No mom should have to worry about whether her child can get medical care, while going through a crisis herself.
Maya was a valuable member in our Staff Union for over 15 years. As her union siblings, we are coming together to create this fund to make sure Maya and her daughter’s unmet medical coverages are fulfilled. If you’re unable to give, sharing with your friends and family will mean a lot!
Thank you for your love, support and compassion during this time.
