Maya Keane, a rising senior at Bishop Hartley High School, has quickly become a standout in the world of junior freestyle wrestling. Inspired by her older brothers’ involvement in wrestling and jujitsu, Maya became interested in learning the sport. When she discovered her high school had a girls’ wrestling team, she eagerly joined and has since dedicated herself to developing her skills. Her hard work paid off this year as she earned a spot on the USA Ohio National Junior Women’s Wrestling Team, set to compete at the prestigious Fargo National Tournament in North Dakota this July.
Maya’s journey has not been without its challenges. Maya has faced knee and foot injuries, all while managing the daily demands of Type 1 diabetes. Despite these obstacles, Maya’s resilience and determination have helped her overcome setbacks and continue to grow as an athlete. With the unwavering support of her family, coaches, and teammates, she has established herself as a disciplined and driven competitor, ready to make an impact on the national stage and in the record books at her school.
Funds raised will help cover the costs of Team Ohio’s training camp, travel to and from Fargo, housing and meals during the camp and tournament, entry fees, and essential team gear such as singlets, shorts, shirts, and equipment bags. Contributions will also support recruitment and media exposure opportunities. Maya’s main goal is to reach the podium at Fargo, gain national recognition, and hopefully earn college scholarships. She is eager to represent her community, school, and the state of Ohio, and is deeply grateful for any support. Maya believes this summer’s experience will be a crucial step toward achieving her personal and athletic goals, and she thanks everyone for supporting her journey to Fargo.
