Support Max's Recovery from Brain Surgery

Hello, my name is Julie Gaffney. Two weeks ago, my son's innocent swim at Crab Island turned into a frightening ordeal. What started as a sinus infection quickly escalated, despite multiple ER visits and rounds of antibiotics. He became unresponsive, prompting a frantic 911 call and a rush to Panama City Hospital.

Doctors initially diagnosed it as a severe sinus infection, but in rare cases, such infections can be devastating. For Max, it led to complications involving his brain due to a strain of strep. After having an emergency transport to Pensacola, he underwent two emergency brain surgeries in to drain fluid that had dangerously covered his brain.

During his ICU stay, a medical oversight caused kidney failure, leading to another emergency surgery. Now, Max is in recovery, facing a challenging road ahead.
